Community Based Vocational Counselor - St. Lawrence County

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work - Flexible to the needs of the program.

 

Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree required. Psychology or Education is preferred; Human Services or related field acceptable. One – two years’ experience working with the mental health population. Valid New York State Driver’s License.             

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance – Authorized to work in the United States and pass all background clearances.

 

Summary/Objective - Provide counseling interventions as needed to the Mental Health population in the Career Solutions program. Develop Vocational Plans for all OMH contracts. Complete the NYESS Data Entry for all programs as needed.

 

Essential Functions –

  1. Monitor and track all mental health referrals.
  2. Conduct all intakes for individuals.
  3. Provide case file reviews for OMH, satisfaction surveys, referrals and other internal documentation.
  4. Participate in team meetings as scheduled.
  5. Review all daily and monthly notes for the OMH contracts and review all billable units.
  6. Provide work readiness activities to individuals in the OMH contracts.
  7. Assist with obtaining and establishing volunteer activities in the community. Coordinate volunteer sites with the Community Resource Professional.
  8. Responsible for maintaining contact with volunteer agencies to ensure satisfaction of services.
  9. Complete all admission and discharge documentation for individuals in the OMH programs.
  10. Provide benefits advisement to referred individuals.

Work Environment - This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

 

Physical Demands - The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; lift; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Work may require lifting, pushing, or pulling in excess of 30 pounds.

Wage Range - $20.94-$23.87/Hour, Based on education and experience.
