STLC Chamber Communications Specialist & Community Coordinators
The St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce seeks enthusiastic individuals to join our team as we seek to fill needs in communications and in representation in Canton, Massena, and surrounding communities. The new team member working on Communications will manage and execute communications efforts of the Chamber including member information distribution, social media, tourism industry promotion, digital postings, and oversight of press releases. Community Coordinator(s) will represent the Chamber in the community, engaging with Chamber members and businesses, creating and executing initiatives, and coordinating events. The Chamber will meet these areas of need through a combination of full-time and/or part-time employees. The Chamber therefore welcomes applications for full and/or part-time employment. For instance, one applicant can apply to fill both the Communications one of the Community Coordinator roles for a full-time position or apply to fill one of those roles on a part-time basis.
Job Title: Communications Specialist & Community Coordinators
Reports to: St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director
Non-Exempt: Full-time at 35 hours per week / Part-time at 17 hours per week.
Chamber office hours are M-F, 9am-4:30pm.
Compensation:
For full-time: $40-45k commensurate with experience. Benefits include individual health, vision and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, retirement match, holidays, and vacation and sick time accruals. For part-time: $22-$24.75 commensurate with experience.

The St. Lawrence County Chamber is an independent 501c6 not-for-profit membership corporation. It is a leading partner in regional economic development and serves as the Tourism Promotion Agent for St. Lawrence County. Members of the Chamber team work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, staff, and community stakeholders to promote and support the interests of businesses and enhance the overall economic climate of the region.

Position Descriptions
The St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce seeks enthusiastic individuals to join our team as we seek to fill needs in communications and in representation in Canton, Massena, and surrounding communities. The Chamber will meet these areas of need through a combination of full-time and/or part-time employees.
The new employee(s) will work closely with other team members working in Tourism, Membership, and Business Development. In addition to the responsibilities listed below, all staff as members of a cohesive team are prepared to complete other duties that provide added value to membership in the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and promotion of the county to visitors and new residents.
Community Coordinator Position Description
Basic Function: To act as the Chamber Representative in the community, engaging with and supporting Chamber members and businesses, creating and executing initiatives, and coordinating events to enhance the business climate and vitality of the community:
- Engage Chamber members and businesses in the communities – identifying business needs, providing connection to pertinent resources, and delivering the benefits of Chamber membership.
- Organize and coordinate events, programs, and networking opportunities that promote area member businesses, foster collaboration, and strengthen the local business ecosystem.
- Serve as the spokesperson for the Chamber in your local communities.
- Advocate for the interests of the local business community to government agencies, elected officials, and other stakeholders.
- Foster partnerships with community organizations, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to support economic development initiatives and community growth.
- Develop and coordinate a local advisory committee (“ambassador group”) to act as ambassadors in the business community and support the above efforts.
Communications & Marketing
Basic Function: To manage and execute communications efforts of the Chamber including member information distribution (newsletters), social media, tourism industry promotion, digital postings, and oversight of press releases. (Team members assist in the production of communications pertinent to their responsibility areas.) Duties Include:
- Develop promotional materials and social media campaigns for use in marketing the Chamber to prospective members.
- Develop and direct Chamber publications to engage members (newsletters, social media, and website).
- Manage media relations and execute marketing strategies to enhance the Chamber’s visibility and reputation.
- Manage the Chamber’s social media profiles and activities on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Support efforts through postings, photos, and important news uploads.
- Promote Chamber events, member updates/announcements and programming with press releases.
- Issue news briefs to the membership highlighting upcoming Chamber programs, business development opportunities, member announcements, events, and activities.
- Provide support for Chamber events and collect photographic documentation for further use in Chamber related publications and on-line postings.
Desired Qualifications
Note: Training will be provided on specific programs and applications, so curiosity and willingness to learn are essential.
Associates degree or equivalent skills and experience.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Proficiency in a range of computing applications (Microsoft Suite, Google Workspace)
- Occasional travel and events outside normal workday required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, car, and car insurance.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds and be active on feet for several hours at a time.
- Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook/Instagram/LinkedIn), digital marketing platforms (Constant Contact), and design software (Canva).
- Interest in economic and community development and local business support.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with members, clients, staff, volunteers, business partners, community leaders and the public.
