Description
Día de los Muertos Family Fun
Join the St. Lawrence County Center for History & Culture (SLCCHC) on Saturday, October 5 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM to learn about the history and customs of the Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, celebrated in Central and South America and the United States! Help to create a memorial ofrenda, or altar, in the Silas Wright House.
Families can make the traditional decorative paper, papel picado, to add to the altar, and create a sugar skull (calaverita) to take home. Participants are encouraged to bring a small photograph of a loved one they wish to commemorate to add to the Silas Wright altar.
Children can also get their faces painted with Halloween or Dia de los Muertos imagery for a small additional fee. Loteria (a Mexican board game similar to bingo) will be available to play.
This program is perfect for children ages 5+. Activities will be led by Alondra Maldonado Espinosa and Megan Royce.
Recommended Ages: Ages 5+ Registration recommended. Space is limited. To pre-register, e-mail Carlene at carlene@slcah.org, or call 315-386-8133, or pre-register online here.
If you have any questions regarding the events or your registration, please reach out to Carlene Bermann at carlene@slcha.org.
