Description
This is the time when the museum's 1810 Parish Mansion feels most like a historic house museum, when it is decorated for the holidays. Stop in for our extended hours and enjoy the festive decorations, exhibits, holiday music, local vendors and discounts in The Museum Shop. Parents, while you explore the museum and shop, children are invited to make hot cocoa, read holiday books and crafts with children's librarian - Dorian Lenney-Wallace of the Ogdensburg Public Library. This activity is free for children. A Holiday Bow Making Workshop will be offered during the event. Learn how to make the perfect bow following step by step instructions provided by Toni of Basta's Flowers. Each participant will create one holiday themed bow approximately 6" in diameter. Supplies are provided. Workshops will start every half hour from 3 pm to 5 pm. All ages welcome. Advance registration by Tuesday, November 29 is recommended. The cost is $10 per person. Local author Diane LaRock will be attending with her children’s books, Grandma’s Garden and Grandma’s Garden Coloring Book. Also, Barbara Briggs Ward will be signing copies of her Christmas Trilogy including The Reindeer Keeper, The Snowman Maker and The Candle Giver. Books are always a great gift idea. Also attending, Cat House Designs By Melanie Kimbler-Lago with her art quilts and painted reclaimed furniture, J. Hackett Cliff & Co. with specialty jams and jellies and River Myst with holiday wine sampling and other items for sale. Visitors are welcome to bring all purchases into the Museum Shop for free gift wrapping or make a beautiful gift basket out of them. Take a stroll through galleries. ?We will have docents on hand, prepared to engage you in deep Remington conversations. Take a peek at the newly loaned first dated drawing by Frederic Remington, from February 19, 1875, done when the artist was only 13, living in Ogdensburg. The Museum Shop carries unique gifts including framed prints, jewelry, books, locally made soaps, clothing, and more. New for the holiday, the Museum Shop will have a limited number of crystal ornaments ?featuring the iconic? Broncho Buster. As always for the Holiday Open House, the Shop offers discounts on select items in celebration of the season. During any visit to the museum, enter to win a $50 gift certificate to Hilda's: The Next Generation in Clayton, NY during your visit. No purchase necessary. Stop in the Museum Shop and enter to win! Drawing to be held Dec 1st at the end of the Holiday Open House. The Hilda's gift certificate expires 12/31/16. Festive decorations not only greet visitors to the Holiday Open House, but through New Years to spread holiday cheer! And, while our winter schedule has the museum closed Monday – Tuesday, for Christmas week the Shop will be open the additional days of Monday, December 21 and Tuesday, December 22 from 1 – 6 pm. The Museum is closed Christmas Day.
