Description
The Hammond Historical Museum will hold a Scottish festival August 10, 2019 from 10 AM to 4 PM. The day begins at 8:30 AM with a one mile “WEE LADS AND LASSIES” KIDS FUN RUN behind Hammond Central School. Then a bagpiper will lead a procession of runners for the 5K KILT RUN from school to St. Lawrence Avenue near the Presbyterian Church for the start of their run. The run will follow the Chippewa Bay Road, where many of the first Scottish immigrants settled. Registration forms are available on the our events page. PRE-REGISTER BY JULY 12th and CLAIM YOUR FREE T-Shirt and Limited-Edition Scottish Festival Button!
The SCOTTISH FESTIVAL itself will begin at 10 AM at the Hammond Museum with a few great bagpipe tunes from Jeff Forsythe. Events include a tribute to the poet, Robert Burns, with readings and recollections of the Burns festivals that were held in Rossie many years ago. The Steel City Rovers, a “celtibilly” band, will give 3 performances. Other entertainment includes performances by harpist, Evelyn Saphier, HUG (Hammond Ukulele Group), and young Scottish dancers. Tug Hill Heavies will demonstrate Highland games throughout the day. There will also be various vendors, face painting, blacksmithing & weaving demonstrations and free tours of the museum buildings.
