STLC Tourism Office Releases Commemorative America 250 Lapel Pins to Support Future Heritage Programming

CANTON, N.Y. — St. Lawrence County's tourism office is inviting residents and visitors to commemorate America's 250th anniversary with the release of a limited-edition St. Lawrence County America 250 commemorative lapel pin, now available for $8 at the St. Lawrence County Visitor Center, 101 Main Street in Canton.

Proceeds from lapel pin sales will directly support future history-related programming, educational initiatives, heritage promotions, and commemorative events throughout St. Lawrence County, helping expand opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with the county's remarkable past.

The collectible pin features the official St. Lawrence County America 250 logo and serves as a lasting reminder of the county's ongoing role in the nationwide semiquincentennial celebration. Whether worn on a jacket, hat, or backpack, or added to a collection of local memorabilia, the pin celebrates the people, places, and stories that continue to shape St. Lawrence County.

The pins were first presented to community leaders, elected officials, and participants who took part in St. Lawrence County's public reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 6 as a token of appreciation for helping commemorate one of the nation's defining moments. A limited quantity has now been made available for public purchase.

Although many residents associate America 250 with this summer's celebrations, the national commemoration extends well beyond 2026. The United States Semiquincentennial observance is a multi-year initiative that began in advance of the nation's 250th birthday and will continue through 2033, recognizing the people, events, and milestones that shaped the country's founding and early years. St. Lawrence County will continue participating through future heritage programs, community partnerships, educational initiatives, and special events that celebrate the county's rich history and its place in the American story.

The celebration will continue this fall with History Month in October, with opportunities to explore local history through special programs and events yet to be announced.
