Open Doors to History Calls on Local Sites to Join October History Weekend

ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, NY – History and heritage sites across St. Lawrence County are invited to participate in Open Doors to History, October 2–4, a countywide weekend celebrating New York State History Month and St. Lawrence County History Month.

First introduced earlier this year as part of the year-long STLC 250 celebration, Open Doors to History was created to encourage residents and visitors to discover the places, collections and stories that preserve St. Lawrence County’s history. Following the program’s initial events, it returns this October with a simplified format bringing participating sites together for one weekend.

Museums, historical organizations, historic sites and other history and heritage partners can choose to participate for one, two or all three days and set their own hours. Participation can be as simple as opening their doors to visitors, with no additional programming required. Sites may also choose to offer tours, exhibits, demonstrations, special collections, programs or other experiences.

Participating locations will be featured through a coordinated countywide promotional campaign and provided with digital and printed materials to support their own outreach. Limited-edition STLC America 250 commemorative coins will also be available through participating locations, giving visitors an added incentive to explore history and heritage sites throughout the county.

History and heritage partners interested in participating can visit STLC250.com to sign up online or download a printable participation form. Applications are due August 31.

Open Doors to History is coordinated by the St. Lawrence County Tourism Office and St. Lawrence County Historian’s Office, with support from the St. Lawrence County 250th Commission, as part of St. Lawrence County’s ongoing America 250 commemoration.
