The War of 1812 Heritage Talks will be held on Saturday, September 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Eben Holden Conference Center and Gunnison Chapel on St. Lawrence University's Campus.
Discussions include:
Nicole Eustance will be be speaking on the cultural significance of the War of 1812. She is a Professor of History at New York University, where she directs the Atlantic History Workshop. She writes and lectures on the history of the Atlantic world, with a particular emphasis on eighteenth-century British America.
Gary M. Gibson will be speaking on the war's maritime history. He is the author of several publications including the second edition of this Service Records of U.S. Naval and Marine Corps Officers Stationed on Lake Ontario During the War of 1812.
St. Lawrence University's Associate Professor of History Judith DeGroat will be speaking to the international connections of the War of 1812, specifically the Napoleonic Wars.
Cassidy Percoco, Collections Manager of the SLCHA will be speaking on the material culture and clothing of the period.
Matthew Dudley SLU'14, history major and Yale Graduate School candidate will be returning to campus to introduce his on-going work on Gen. James Wilkinson.
Sondra Goldsmith Proctor and guests will present selections of Music of the War of 1812 in America.
