Description
Participants learn about silk dyeing, and practice painting on silk using resist techniques. Low toxicity dyes and waxes are used. During class students borrow the instructor’s silk stretchers, sponges, a few brushes for applying dyes, tjantings to draw with hot wax. Boiled water removes the wax. Prior experience with watercolor painting is helpful but not required. Students may wish to bring newsprint, additional dye brushes, sponges, heat resistant stamps such as metal utensils, etc. that can be used for applying wax resist.
It’s recommended that students wear old clothes that they aren’t concerned about staining.
