Description
Fred Morgan, Norwood, NY, liked to tinker. He always had a project going in his shop, where he combined mechanical skill with a great imagination and interest in local life. He is best remembered for the tuba he converted into a mailbox that sat outside his house (he was also a tuba player in the Norwood Brass Firemen marching band). When you opened the box, you saw a model of a tuba player and heard recorded tuba music. In his later years, Fred made mechanized dioramas , enough of them to put together a show in his garage that delighted local schoolchildren. Following Fred’s death in 1994, the Morgan family donated many of the pieces he made to TAUNY’s collection. An exhibit of selections from this collection will open August 7 in the upper level gallery of The TAUNY Center.
