Description
January Cheese of the Month Sampling at the Potsdam Food Co-op The Potsdam Food Co-op's featured Cheese of the Month for January is Lake Effect Cheddar from Lively Run Dairy Farm and Creamery, Interlaken, NY. Samples will be available on Friday, January 14th beginning at 12 noon and will continue while supplies last. Lively Run Goat Dairy Farm and Creamery began offering cow cheeses in 2014. Their Lake Effect Cheddar is made from the fresh raw milk of humanely raised cows from a local award-winning dairy. All Lively Run cheeses use vegetable rennet and are free of preservatives, colorings, and artificial ingredients. Lake Effect Cheddar has a robust flavor that is a blend of traditional cheddar sharpness with a nuttiness not usually exhibited in US made cheddars. Pair Lake Effect Cheddar with Canadian Lager or Irish Stout beers, Cayuga White, Pinot Noir, or Port wines or apple cider. Suggestions: Lake Effect Cheddar is a perfect addition to a cheese board. Use it to top cold sandwiches, grilled burgers, or in a grilled cheese sandwich. It is a great featured ingredient in cheddar biscuits, pierogies, or broccoli-cheddar soup. Use Lake Effect Cheddar in a traditional mac and cheese recipe or try mixing it with chèvre for a unique flavor twist. Find Lake Effect Cheddar featured in items located in the Grab n’ Go section of the Co-op’s Deli case this month, along with recipes in the blog section of the Co-op’s website. Purchases of this cheese will receive 10% off for the entire month of January. The Potsdam Food Co-op & Carriage House Bakery and Deli is located at 24 Elm Street and open daily from 8am to 7pm with curbside service available. It is a member-owned cooperative grocery store (although membership is not required) where everyone is welcome to shop and anyone is welcome to join. Committed to the community and local sustainability, its emphasis is on providing natural and organic foods with the practice of buying from local and regional growers and producers. A large selection of specialty items such as gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan foods are also available.
