Description
May Cheese of the Month Sampling at the Potsdam Food Co-op The Potsdam Food Co-op's featured Cheese of the Month for May is Somerdale Poacher's Cheddar - English Cheddar with Caramelized Onions: a delightful blended Cheddar suitable for vegetarians. Samples will be available on Friday, May 13th beginning at 12 noon and will continue while supplies last. Find Poacher's Cheddar in items located in the Grab n’ Go section of the Co-op’s Deli case during the month, along with recipes in the blog section of the Co-op’s website. Purchases of this cheese will receive 10% off for the entire month of May. Somerdale Poacher's Cheddar - English Cheddar with Caramelized Onions comes to us from Somerdale; a leading exporter of unique English cheeses. It is a delightful medley of smooth English cheddar and caramelized onions that produces a distinctive tangy flavor with a sweet finish. It has a buff colored interior and a soft texture that becomes slightly crumbly and spreadable at room temperature. Like most cheddars, it is very versatile and is a particularly good melting cheese. Pair with Samuel Smith Organic Lager now available at the Co-op! Brewed with great care using only organic malted barley, organic hops, medium-soft water, and a bottom-fermenting yeast; matured at low temperatures to bring out its delicate flavor and soft hop-character finish. The cold maturation period allows the bottom-fermenting yeasts to secondary ferment and improve this lager’s flavor, purity, and condition. Also pair with an IPA, also available at the Co-op, an acidic white wine such as Riesling, a lighter port, sherry, or bubbly. Suggestions: Serve Somerdale Poacher's Cheddar on crackers, with apples and toast, or crumbled on a salad. Use it to top a hamburger, hotdog, or even pizza. Because it is made with vegetarian rennet, vegetarians can also enjoy it melted over grilled Portobello mushrooms. Try it in your favorite mac and cheese, fondue, and grilled cheese recipes, or add it to creamy soups and pasta sauces. The Potsdam Food Co-op & Carriage House Bakery and Deli is located at 24 Elm Street and open daily from 8am to 7pm, with curbside service available. It is a member-owned cooperative grocery store (although membership is not required) where everyone is welcome to shop and anyone is welcome to join. Committed to the community and local sustainability, its emphasis is on providing natural and organic foods with the practice of buying from local and regional growers and producers. A large selection of specialty items such as gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan foods are also available.
