For generations, people have put up their own food, while others are newly eager to build those skills and extend their seasonal eating. The community is invited to support this long-standing tradition by joining in the first-ever Canning Jar Drive, hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County. Donated jars will be used in food preservation classes in St. Lawrence County and redistributed free of charge to other home food preservers during Extension's Grow and Preserve Open House on May 6. Between April 3rd-28th, drop off donations Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm in the wooden shed on the right side of the driveway at the Extension Learning Farm at 2043B State Highway 68 in Canton. Any jar size or brand is acceptable as long as they are intended for canning (such as Ball, Kerr, Bernardin, etc.). Metal bands in good condition are also accepted.
