The 'World is Your Oyster' Mushroom: Simple Techniques For Growing Oyster Mushrooms In Your Home Presented by Mike Corse of Deep Root Mushroom Farm with the Local Living Venture Saturday, November 5 1 - 3 pm Attendees at this short but immersive workshop will receive an introduction / crash course in Fungi and Fungi cultivation, including a tour of the Shiitake yard with an explanation of Shiitake cultivation. Next will be Oyster mushrooms on straw, demonstrating three methods - "stinky straw," hydrated lime and stovetop methods. Hands-on mushroom cultivation will follow, using blue oyster mushroom spore. Additionally, there will be a tour of the "grow room," lab and homestead. PRESENTER BIOGRAPHY Mike Corse is owner/operator of Deep Root Mushroom Farm where he has been growing shiitake and oyster mushrooms since 2010. Currently Deep Root Mushroom Farm sells at the Canton and Potsdam Farmers Market, Nature's Storehouse in Canton and occasionally to Jake's On The Water in Hannawa Falls. Deep Root Mushroom Farm is ever growing or "mushrooming" with plans to expand into other markets and introduce new mushroom varieties soon. Mike is also the head cook at Nature's Storehouse in Canton where his mushrooms sometimes show up on the menu. Mike and his wife Maria, live deep in the woods of Pierrepont, N.Y. on their off-grid homestead, with one dog, two cats and several billion mushroom spores. DONATION * For this unique learning experience, a $27 general public, $49 couple/family of two (1 mushroom bag,) $15 student donation is requested for material costs, to cover overhead expenses and to benefit Local Living Venture non-profit workshop creation. * Participants will go home with your own starter bag of oyster mushrooms, included in the cost of the workshop! * Additional bags are available from Deep Root Mushroom Farm for $18 each. * Please note that our generous Presenters are volunteers donating their time to support the Local Living Venture, and this is a major means of support for our community organization.
