DESCRIPTION:Sugar Island Guided Paddling Tour\n\n\n\nJoin SLCCHC director Carlene Bermann & Nature Up North for a scenic paddle of approximately 1.5 hours on the Raquette River.\n\n\n\nDetails: Date: August 4\, Time: Begins at 10 a.m.\, lasts approx. 1.5 hours. Location: Lehman Park\, Potsdam. Cost: $10  Registration fee. Boat & Equipment Rentals: Free of charge\, provided by Nature Up North. First come\, first served. Limited quantity available.\n\n\n\nPre-registration Required. Register Online: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/ev/reg/6fdrjjt\n\n\n\nThe tour will start and end at Lehman Park in Potsdam\, where parking and a boat launch are available.\n\n\n\nPlease arrive at least 15 minutes early if you are borrowing a boat or equipment. If you opted to rent a boat\, a printable ticket was provided at checkout. If you do not have your printable ticket with you\, simply show your receipt showing a boat rental to on-site staff.\n\n\n\nSafety waivers must be signed before leaving. If you are renting equipment\, life vests\, paddles\, and boats will be provided. If you are not renting equipment\, please bring a life vest and paddles. Please wear closed-toed water shoes and proper outdoor clothing to this event.\n\n\n\nExplore remains from some of the industries that have used the Raquette River over the past 150+ years\, from logging to hydropower.\n\n\n\nLearn about the rich history of downtown Potsdam while enjoying a leisurely\, scenic paddle. Highlights include remains of: -Logging booms -Hannawa- Potsdam rail line from Sugar to Oak Island -Sugar Island Dam -Potsdam Sandstone Works\n\n\n\nPaddlers may also stop and visit Bayside Cemetery or detour to the Munter Trail during the program\, adding length to the trip.\n\n\n\nPrior paddling experience not necessary. Tour may be rescheduled or canceled due to weather or unsafe paddling conditions. Registered participants will be notified by phone or e-mail of any changes by 4 p.m. \, Monday\, August 3.
