He is best remembered for the tuba he converted into a mailbox that sat outside his house (he was also a tuba player in the Norwood Brass Firemen marching band). When you opened the box\, you saw a model of a tuba player and heard recorded tuba music. In his later years\, Fred made mechanized dioramas \, enough of them to put together a show in his garage that delighted local schoolchildren. Following Fred's death in 1994\, the Morgan family donated many of the pieces he made to TAUNY's collection.
