Nancy Wilder Palmateer Memorial Children?s Workshop: Building a Lap Dulcimer with Dan Duggan and Cassie Helman
\n\nWhether they are budding musicians or have never picked up an instrument before\, the lap dulcimer is a fun\, easy way for children to make music together. TAUNY staff artist Dan Duggan has worked in schools throughout the Northeast for over 30 years teaching students music on traditional instruments. He has put together a multi-day workshop to guide participants through decorating\, building\, and learning to play their own lap dulcimer.
\n\nThe dulcimers will be assembled from kits ? no messy sanding and sawing required! The instrument bodies are made from sturdy cardboard\, and the necks are wooden. Participants will paint the bodies\, assemble them\, glue the necks\, and install the tuning machines. On the first day of the workshop\, TAUNY staff artist Cassie Helman will help students to decorate the dulcimer bodies. On the second day\, Dan will guide them through building the instruments. On the last day\, Dan will teach them how to play their instruments.
\n\nRegistration is required. The workshop and materials are free\, but participants are asked to commit to all three days of the workshop. All workshop days take place at The TAUNY Center. This workshop is intended for children ages 10 and up. \; \; \; \; \; \; \; \; \; \; \; \; \; \; \; \; \; \;
